Retired APIs, back in one key
Clearbit-style company autocomplete, logos and company profiles, address geocoding with Census FIPS, book lookup after Goodreads, and encyclopedia search after Bing: one REST API and MCP server built on open public data. 100 free calls a day, no key; plans from $5 (one-time pack) or $19/month.

Who it's for
Developers whose code still calls an API that was switched off, and AI agents that need the same lookups.
Point the autocomplete at /v1/companies/suggest and keep the same JSON shape.
Geocode and reverse-geocode with Census FIPS codes, one HTTPS call, no SDK.
Title, author, ISBN, cover and ratings from Open Library in one call.
An MCP server with 7 tools: company lookup, logo, geocode, reverse geocode, books and encyclopedia search.
Try it
Type a company name, the way a Clearbit autocomplete field did. Prefilled with a real one.

}Limits, plainly
Free and rate limited so it stays fast for everyone. One lookup per call. Loop for lists; paid keys raise the per-minute rate to the plan's limit.
- Free tier: 100 calls a day per IP, 30 a minute, no key. Paid keys from $5 (one-time pack) or $19/month (see Get an API key).
- Every call is one lookup and counts once; failed calls are not counted. Answers are cached at the edge (company and search 6-24 hours, geocodes and logos 7 days); cached: true marks them.
- Geocoding outside the US uses OpenStreetMap Nominatim, which allows about 1 request a second for the whole service; at busy moments a call may answer 503 busy (retry in a few seconds). US addresses use the Census Geocoder and are not affected.
- Company profiles read only public sources: the company's homepage, public DNS and Wikidata. No personal data, no employee or contact records. Sites behind a bot wall return blocked: true with DNS and Wikidata facts only.
- Search covers Wikipedia (English), not the whole web.
How the price compares
Rival list prices were read from their public pricing pages on 3 Oct 2026.
| Who | Plan | Calls | Per 1,000 calls |
|---|---|---|---|
| API Ninjas Developer (many APIs, one quota) | $39/month | 100,000 calls/month | $0.39 |
| OpenCage geocoding X-Small | $50/month | about 300,000 geocodes/month | $0.17 |
| Context.dev Developer (brand retrieve = 10 credits) | $19/month | 750 brand lookups/month | $25.33 |
| Afterwren Builder | $19/month | 25,000 calls/month, all 7 lookups | $0.76 |
| Afterwren pay as you go | $5 once, never expires | 5,000 calls | $1.00 |
Single-purpose geocoders are cheaper per call at very high volume; Afterwren is one key for company, logo, geocoding, books and search, with a free daily tier and no card to try.
Get an API key
One API key and MCP server for the developer APIs that were switched off: Clearbit-compatible company autocomplete (same [{name, domain, logo}] shape, with working logos), company logos and public company profiles from a domain, forward and reverse geocoding with US Census FIPS (the abandoned Python geocoder package's job), Goodreads-style book search (Open Library) and Wikipedia search after the Bing Search API. Built only on open public data.
14-day money-back promise: if it doesn't work as described, email us within 14 days and we fix it or refund you in full. Refund terms.

FAQ
Is it really a drop-in for Clearbit Autocomplete?
For the suggest endpoint, yes: change the host from autocomplete.clearbit.com to afterwren.cybermaxtools.com and keep /v1/companies/suggest?query=. It answers the same JSON array of {name, domain, logo}. Results come from Wikidata, so very small private companies without a Wikidata entry are not listed.
Why not Clearbit, Brandfetch or Context.dev?
Clearbit's free Logo API ended on 1 Dec 2025 and its Autocomplete answers with logo: null since 9 Sep 2025. Brand APIs such as Context.dev charge 10 credits per brand ($19 for 750 brand lookups, 3 Oct 2026). If you need the company's name, domain, logo and basic facts, a Builder key ($5 (one-time pack) or $19/month) covers 25,000 calls a month across all 7 lookups.
What replaced the Python geocoder package?
Call /api/geocode?q= or /api/reverse?lat=&lng= with requests; the fields match geocoder's (lat, lng, latlng, address, city, state, postal, country) and US results add county, tract and block FIPS codes from the Census Geocoder.
Is there a key or a cost?
The free tier needs no key: 100 calls a day per IP. Paid keys: pay as you go: $5 for 5,000 calls that never expire (no subscription); or monthly: Builder $19/month for 25,000 calls, Pro $49/month for 100,000 calls, Team $99/month for 300,000 calls. Yearly billing gives 2 months free. Every call is one lookup. Send the key as the x-api-key header. No surprise overage charges; cancel any time.
Can AI agents use it?
Yes. Add the MCP server URL below to Claude, Cursor or any MCP client (with your key as a Bearer token for paid limits). Agents can also pay per call in USDC with x402, no account needed. Tools: company_suggest, company_logo, company_profile, geocode, reverse_geocode, book_search, encyclopedia_search.
Where does the data come from, and is it legal to use?
Only open, public sources used within their terms: US Census Geocoder (public domain), OpenStreetMap Nominatim (ODbL, attribution in every answer, rate-limited to its policy), Wikidata (CC0), Open Library, Wikipedia (CC BY-SA), each company's own public homepage and public DNS. No personal or contact data. Not affiliated with Clearbit, HubSpot, Goodreads, Amazon or Microsoft.
